Four-Letter Word v.0.1.1a (itch.io Launch)

Hello, itch.io! I'm excited to announce Four-Letter Word's debut on the platform! Four-Letter Word is a gay, furry visual novel that saw its first release in January 2015 after a couple of months of development, which continued up until early 2016 where I had to step away from the project for health reasons. A lot has changed in those four years, including the explosion of furry visual novels on itch.io, so now that I'm back, what better way to relaunch the game than to bring its first public build in years to the platform? For those of you who have followed my work before, it's good to see you again! For those of you who are new to it, welcome! I hope you enjoy your time with it!

I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank some of the other VN creators on itch.io that have been a great help to me since my return.

Basket from Tennis Ace who introduced me to the rest of the FVN Discord crew and made sure I didn't overwork myself.
Carbon and nanoff from Minotaur Hotel who have been an enormous help, mentoring me through the whole itch.io process and helping me with some trickier parts of coding.
Eddio from Killigan's Treasure who has also been very helpful with coding concerns.

Please check out their projects as well, if you haven't had an opportunity to yet!

(v.0.1.1 was the Patreon build released two weeks ago. v.0.1.1.a includes some minor changes in preparation for launch on itch.io.)

- Fixed an issue where Colby's mom's dialogue still appeared in the wrong color
- Implemented a player survey accessible from a prompt upon reaching the end of a build or the main menu

+ Changes from 0.1.0

- Two sets of older CGs were completely redone, minor adjustments to a few others
- Minor adjustments to some sprites

- Adjusted decibel levels of many music tracks and sound effects to be more consistent
- Minor rewrites/additions to older scenes
- Debug menu implemented for high-tier Patron builds
- Added Patreon and comic links to the main menu
- Fixed an issue where phone messages as Asher were impossible to read
- Fixed an issue where some character dialogue appeared in the wrong color or had the wrong name
- Fixed an issue where the preferences menu was not updating correctly to reflect your choice of main character (or if you were at a point where no main character is selected)
- Fixed an issue where you could not return to the main menu when choosing "Options" from the main menu (this still happens when choosing "Continue" from the main menu. I'll try to get this fixed for the next build.)

Just wanted to say that I found your game recently and played everything that's available last night. I'm absolutely enthralled with the story you've laid out so far and cannot wait for more; Glad you came back to this project

Thank you! So glad you decided to give my VN a try and that you enjoyed it so much! If you think it's worth a 5-star rating, and it's not too much trouble, would you mind sending one my way? It really helps the game out with itch's algorithm to get more eyes on it, especially in these early days. Thanks!

Done and done. I really hope this VN gets the attention it deserves

Thanks! You're the best! ❤

Not really a criticism but please try continue to keep the high quality with the story programming or whatever it is called.

I've been playing a lot of Echo and Route 65 recently and one Echo's biggest flaws is how sometimes you play a scene in a route, then you play the same scene in a different route and minus one character and the game thinks you've never seen the scene before at all.  Or you made a different decision at the end of a route after seeing the end of one choice and the game thinks you've never seen the scene before at all either.

Example of the earlier: playing Flynn's Route Saturday Morning then Carl's Route Saturday Morning.

Example of the latter: the choice that decides the A Ending or B Ending in Carl's Route

The skipping function just doesn't work a lot in those examples and it us supper annoying when it happens.

Hmm, I'm not sure what I've done differently in that regard, if anything at all, haha. Was there an instance you recall where FLW behaved differently?

Nope.  It runs perfectly in that regards so far.

Okay, good to know!

Sadly I think the art needs to be updated you art now is alot better than it used to be and looks nicer. And you don't have to do a screen resolution change now you could do it later down the road when it's almost done so you are not overwhelmed.

Yes, that's currently one of my long-term plans with the character sprites. You can read more details about that in my recent devlog. It's extremely unlikely that I'll be adjusting screen resolution further down the road, for reasons detailed in that devlog as well. For as much work as it would take now to uprez everything, it would be far more the more art assets would need to be changed. Instead of taking months, it might take half a year, and I'm really not interested in spending that much of my life doing nothing but scaling already completed images (and I doubt anyone would want to pay me to do that either.)
